Cllr. Paul Sargent has represented Carfax Ward on Oxford City Council since May 2002. He currently chairs three Oxford City Council committees; Central, South & West Area Committee, Community Scrutiny Committee and Health Scrutiny Committee. He also sits on the Strategic Development Control Committee, the Licensing Committee and the Director's and Manager's Disciplinary Committee.

Paul Sargent is a trustee of the City of Oxford Charities, a member of the board of Oxford Nightsafe and a member of the committee of Jericho Community Association. Paul is a keen hillwalker, kayakist and caver. He has a passion for theatre, cinema, contemporary music, choral music, real ale and supports Gloucester RFC.

He has recently been selected by the local party as a prospective candidate for the West Central County Council Division. The division takes in three City Council wards; Jericho & Osney, North and Carfax.

Cllr. Alan Armitage was born in Africa, educated in Scotland, USA and York University, and has worked in 15 of the 25 countries of the European Union. He has lived in West Central Oxford for twelve years, and his three children all attended or still attend the local state schools. His wife Jane is a doctor, currently engaged in large-scale drugs trials based at the Radcliffe Infirmary.

Alan has been a Liberal Democrat city councillor since 2002, and was previously a councillor in Buckinghamshire. He is a member of the Executive Board of Oxford City Council. Aside from his duties as a councillor, Alan is a member of the UK Asylum and Immigration Tribunal, a governor and chair of Finance at Gosford Hill School (Kidlington), member of the Oxford Sports Council and has been a member of a Race Equality Council.

He spent many years in the IT industry, latterly as a specialist in computer security. He is a lifelong member of Liberty, an officer of the Oxfordshire Branch of the European Movement, and is involved as a singer and double bass player in local music groups.

Alan cares passionately about defending civil liberties and our environment, and is closely involved with asylum and immigration issues. He also has considerable knowledge of state education, particularly from a financial perspective.

Cllr. Jean Fooks has been a councillor since 1992. After graduating from Somerville College, she went into computing and teaching, then Health Service research based in the Radcliffe Infirmary. She has been a school governor since 1992, first at Frideswide and now at the Cherwell School. She is on the Cutteslowe Community Association Committee and currently chairs the County Council Social and Health Care Scrutiny Committee.

Jean has always taken an interest in traffic matters, trying to strike the right balance between the needs of residents and general traffic reduction policies. Air pollution has been a concern for some time as well as the need to protect the environment. Now that she is a grandparent, she is regularly reminded of the needs of children and young people.

Clark first came to Oxford from his birthplace – California – in 1957, and during his year in the Engineering Department of the University met his future English wife. They returned permanently to Oxford in 1963 and have been here (with one short break) ever since. All four of their children were born in Oxford, and two still live in the city.

After some years as a teacher and researcher (in high altitude aerodynamics) in the University Engineering Department, and as a Fellow and Tutor in Jesus College, he was for seven years Vice Chancellor of the University of Warwick. He then became the founding director of what is now the Said Business School, the University of Oxford's business school, which was established in 1992, and was also President of Templeton College.

He has always been concerned with social issues, and has been the chairman of charities, a school governor and a governor of Oxford Polytechnic (now Oxford Brookes University), as well as a non-executive director of Blackwell Science.

Clark has been a Liberal Democrat city councillor since 2004 and is a member of the Audit Committee, the Finance Scrutiny Committee, the Housing Advisory Board and the Strategic Development Control Committee as well as serving on other panels.

Diana Galletly has been a member of the Liberal Democrats since 2001. She has been involved in campaigning for the party in the Cambridge constituency (and still helps out there) before coming to Oxford.

Diana is a Lecturer in Technology in the Department of Architecture at Oxford Brookes University. She has been in Oxford since September 2004. Prior to that she worked in Cambridge, both as a structural/materials engineer, and as a pedagogical investigator.

Other than politics, Diana enjoys messing around with computers (system management, programming, and website design), photography, writing (poetry, short stories and longer works), cooking, real ale, and singing. She sings regularly with the choir of Little St Mary's church in Cambridge.

She is also extremely interested in electoral reform issues.
